What is the coronavirus?

Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) better known as Coronavirus is a new type of coronavirus that is transmitted to humans. This virus can affect anyone, both infants, children, adults, the elderly, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.

Coronavirus is the name of a family of viruses that have a crown-shaped structure. They cause respiratory infections and have already caused other diseases. In general, they circulate only among animals such as bats and rodents, but they also infect people when their coexistence is very close and the viruses undergo spontaneous and random mutations.

The new coronavirus that started circulating in China last year was named temporary 2019 n-Cov and later the official SARS-CoV-2, an acronym for the full English name "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2".

The disease caused by the new coronavirus was called Covid-19. It was discovered in late December 2019 in China. The first death was recorded on 9 January.

Symptoms of Corona Virus

Coronavirus infection or COVID-19 can cause sufferers to experience flu symptoms, such as the runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat, and fever; or symptoms of severe respiratory infections, such as high fever, cough with phlegm and even bleeding, shortness of breath, and chest pain.

However, in general, there are 3 general symptoms that can indicate someone is infected with the Coronavirus, namely:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Hard to breathe

According to research, symptoms of COVID-19 appear within 2 days to 2 weeks after exposure to the Coronavirus.
